Terms of service · version 2026-10-08
MetLex Free and Library
Between Mettle AB, org. no. 559249-4842, VAT no. SE559249484201, Stockholm, Sweden ("Mettle"), and the person or organisation that creates an account or places an order ("you"). Contact: order@metlex.eu for orders and invoices, privacy@metlex.eu for everything else. The forms on the site keep what you send on our server; mail sent directly is handled in Google Workspace, as the privacy notice explains.
These terms, the privacy notice and, for Library, the order you place make up the agreement. Where they differ, the order comes first, then these terms, then the privacy notice.
1. The service
- MetLex returns passages of published law and, in Library, of the public record of how it is applied, word for word, with citation, link to the official text, layer and snapshot date, through a website and an MCP endpoint.
- MetLex runs no generative model. Your AI client writes the answers; you are responsible for what it does with the passages.
- MetLex is not legal advice. Passages can be missed or out of date; verify against the linked official text.
2. Account and key
- An account is for one person. A business account names the organisation it is used for. Logging in on a second device ends the session on the first.
- Keys are personal to the account: up to three, one per workstation. A key is used from one place at a time; a request from a second place while the first is active is refused. Keep keys secret and revoke a key that leaks.
- The limits of each plan, per search and per month, are shown on the site and may change with notice there.
3. Use
- Use MetLex for your own work and that of your organisation, including in the answers your AI client gives you and your colleagues. A key may serve an internal assistant or service of your organisation, on one workstation or server.
- Send MetLex the legal question only. Do not put personal data, names of clients or confidential facts in a question; MetLex refuses a question that holds an e-mail address or a personal identity number.
- Do not copy the Library in bulk, pass Library passages to people outside your licence, resell them, or use them to build a competing collection. Do not try to get round limits, keys or access controls.
- Mettle may suspend a key or an account used against this section, and tells you why.
4. Fees and payment
Free costs nothing. Library is sold to businesses and other organisations only, not to consumers. It is a yearly licence per reader at the price in the order, excluding VAT, invoiced in advance by Mettle with 30 days to pay. Late payment carries interest under the Swedish Interest Act (räntelagen). A reader licence is unlocked when the payment arrives and runs twelve months. There is no automatic renewal; a renewal offer is sent before a licence ends. When a licence ends, the account returns to Free.
5. Content and rights
Laws and public documents are free of copyright where Swedish and EU law say so, and their official texts stay the reference. The selection, structure, citations and links that MetLex adds, and the collections as a whole, belong to Mettle. You may quote passages with their citation in your own work and advice. Nothing else in the service is licensed to you.
6. Data
What is kept, why and for how long is in the privacy notice. No question is stored when MetLex is used as a tool by an AI client. Where Mettle processes personal data on your behalf, the data processing terms in section 9 apply.
7. Availability and changes
The service is provided as is, with no uptime guarantee. The corpus is updated nightly from the official sources; a source can be late, missing or changed. Mettle may change these terms with 30 days notice by e-mail and on the site; if a change is to your disadvantage you may end Library before it applies and get the fees for the unused months back. Mettle may change or end the service with 90 days notice, and at once where law requires.
8. Schedule for financial entities (DORA Art. 30(2))
For a financial entity using MetLex on an ongoing basis, the service provided is an ICT service. These are the elements Art. 30(2) requires a contract to contain, stated once here so you can put MetLex in your register of information.
| Art. 30(2) | Term |
| (a) Functions and services | Retrieval of passages of law and public record over HTTPS and MCP. Hosting is subcontracted to Scaleway SAS (France). No other subcontracting. |
| (b) Locations | France (Paris): the service is provided, and data processed and stored, there. Mail you send us directly is handled in Google Workspace; see the privacy notice. You will be told by e-mail 30 days before any change of location. |
| (c) Data protection | Section 9 and the privacy notice. No question is stored when MetLex is used as a tool; on the website only while you have history switched on. Passages are public law and public record. |
| (d) Access, recovery, return | Your history is exportable from the account page while the service runs. On termination or insolvency the same export is available for 30 days, then deleted. Mettle keeps encrypted backups of account data in the European Union. |
| (e) Service levels | No availability commitment in Free or Library. Faults and planned work are announced by e-mail to the account addresses and on the site. Library fees are credited for whole days the service is unavailable, on request. |
| (f) Incident assistance | Mettle informs and assists you in an ICT incident affecting the service, at no additional cost. |
| (g) Cooperation with authorities | Mettle fully cooperates with your competent and resolution authorities, including persons they appoint. |
| (h) Termination | You may end at any time from the account page. Mettle may suspend a key or an account at once under section 3. Mettle may end the agreement with 30 days notice for breach, and otherwise with 90 days notice. |
| (i) Training participation | Mettle takes part in your ICT security awareness programme on request, within reason. |
The hosted service is not offered to support a critical or important function. Art. 30(3) terms are therefore not provided.
9. Data processing terms (GDPR Art. 28)
Where the search history or feedback of an account contains personal data of others, Mettle processes it for you as processor, on these terms.
- Subject matter and duration: the search history and feedback of the account, for the life of the account.
- Types of data: questions kept in the history, feedback text, and contact details given with feedback.
- Data subjects: persons named in your questions or feedback.
- Instructions and confidentiality: Mettle processes the data only on your documented instruction (the switches on the account page), keeps it confidential, and applies the security measures in the privacy notice.
- Sub-processors: only those listed in the privacy notice, bound by the same obligations as Mettle. Mettle gives 30 days notice of a new one; you may object within that period, and if the objection cannot be met you may end the agreement before the change.
- Assistance and breaches: Mettle assists with data subject requests, and notifies you of a personal data breach without undue delay and at the latest within 36 hours of becoming aware.
- End and audits: Mettle deletes the data when you delete the account, makes available the information needed to show compliance, and allows and contributes to audits and inspections by you or an auditor you appoint, on request.
10. Liability
Mettle is not liable for decisions taken on the passages, for indirect loss or lost profit, or for events beyond its reasonable control. Otherwise Mettle's liability is limited, for Free, to what mandatory law requires and, for Library, to the fees paid in the preceding 12 months. These limits do not apply to wilful misconduct or gross negligence, and do not limit the mandatory rights of a consumer (section 12).
11. Ending
You may delete the account at any time from the account page. A Library licence already paid runs to its end date and is not refunded, except under sections 7 and 8(e). Mettle may suspend a key or an account at once under section 3. Mettle may end the agreement with 30 days notice for breach, and otherwise with 90 days notice.
12. Law and disputes
Swedish law applies. Disputes go to Stockholm District Court (Stockholms tingsrätt). If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms limits your mandatory rights, including to bring a claim in your home country or to turn to Allmänna reklamationsnämnden. You may not transfer the agreement without Mettle agreeing; Mettle may transfer it to a company that takes over the service, and tells you.
